National Movement of Amhara (NaMA) says TPLF continues to pose a threat to the country and the people as its forces still remain within Afar and Amhara regions.
In a statement issued after concluding its central committee meeting and 3rd general assembly, the party stated that it has assessed the response given to the attack launched by the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) on Amhara region in the Existential Campaign and set roadmaps to the way forward.
“Analysing the historic confrontation NaMa waged during the campaign, the party has set directions that our movement plays a reinforced role and let the Amhara people make a holistic preparation to be steadily alert until the invader is demolished for good.”
NaMA also called upon the government to look into the ever-worsening security risks in the country and execute its responsibility towards bringing an immediate solution.
In Amhara Regional State, sporadic clashes continue to be reported along areas bordering Tigray in North Gondar, North Wollo, and Waghemra zones. Similarly, the situation in the Afar region continues to deteriorate, with armed clashes reported in Abala, Berahle, and Koneba Woreda in Zone 2, according to a report from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
The party also disclosed the restructuring it made to its leadership delegation it claimed to supposedly achieve the national mission it is set to defend. The assembly elected Belete Molla (Ph.D.) as party Chairman and Melakmu Shumeye as Vice Chairman.
Other elected members of the Executive committee include Tewodros Hailemariam (Ph.D.) as head of Office of the Central Committee; Desalegn Chane (Ph.D.) as head of External and International Relations Bureau; Yesuf Ibrahim as head of Law and Ethics Issues; Tahir Mohammed, as Public Relations head; Gahsaw Mersha, as head of Political Affairs; Christian Tadele, as head of Policy and Strategy; and Hasabu Tesfaw as head of Organizational Affairs.
Established in 2018, the National Movement of Amhara (NaMA) is an Amhara ethnic nationalist political party working towards advancing and defending the interests of the Amhara people. The party is one of the few opposition parties which could obtain a seat in the House of Peoples Representatives after the 2021 Ethiopian General Elections.
