What does religion have to do with the river Nile?
Grand Ethiopia Renaissance Dam(GERD) has been a source of tension in the Nile River basin since Ethiopia broke ground on it almost a decade ago. Ethiopia sees the dam as essential to the country's electrification and development, while Sudan and Egypt view it as a threat to essential water supplies. The standoff between the Nile riparian countries Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan over the mega-dam project by the latter seems to add a new twist as the days go by. Citizens of these countries are voicing their opinions on social media and talking about this life-changing decision made by Ethiopia. One twitter post, in particular, has many people talking on twitter. This post made by a Kuwait citizen saying The claim ‘All  Muslims will stand with Egyptian rights in the Nile River’ has triggered a response from many Ethiopians especially the generalization in his comment prompted many angry replies from the Ethiopian Muslim community. The replies to the tweet come in many shapes and sizes and some of them are listed below. One tweet from Derese Kassa emphasizes that religion has nothing to do with politics and another tweet from Moonira condemns his allegation by asking him how he can represent all Muslims. A person named Justice, asks which real Muslim supports the non-justiciability of the matter. Melese Girmay, another twitter user and an angered response giver, says that "Islam is all about justice. But this is all about injustice" in his comment against the tweet posted. Egypt's demands are unjust & inhumane. Selfless Ethiopians will defend its rights is another remark made by Alemu, another angry response to the previous post.
