Ethiopian Airlines is preparing to resume regular flights to the Tigray region following the peace accord, Mesfin Tassew, CEO of the airline, told Ethiopian News Agency (ENA).

Ethiopian Airlines' regular daily domestic flights to the Tigray region were suspended after the war in Tigray erupted in November 2020.

The CEO said the resumption of Ethiopian’s flights will play a significant role in facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region in addition to restarting the airline’s regular services.

It is stated that Mekele and Axum airports are found in a good condition to get back to service while Axum airport needs recovery due to the damage it sustained during the conflict.

Ethiopian Airlines’ domestic flights cover about 22 cities in the country including its discontinued flights to the towns of Shire, Mekele, and Axum in the Tigray region.
