High ranking delegation of the federal government of Ethiopia, led by Speaker of the House of People's Representatives, Tagesse Chafo, headed to the capital of Tigray, Mekelle, for the first time after the two-year-old devastating war.
The delegation went to Mekelle to monitor the implementation process of the peace accord signed by the two parties and to ensure the execution of the agreement in accordance with its plan.
It is recalled that the second meeting between senior commanders of the federal government of Ethiopia and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) at Nairobi reached an agreement to meet in the capital of the Tigray Regional State, Mekelle before the new year is ushered in.
The former president of Kenya and the AU high-level panel member, Uhuru Kenyatta, said in the meeting in Nairobi last week, "I don’t want to mention a specific date, but the next meeting will be in Mekelle before the end of this month."
Professor Kindaya Gebrehiwet, a member of the central committee of TPLF, said yesterday, "I hope the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement brings lasting peace to the deadly conflict in Tigray. Let everyone contribute to upholding it; it takes courage to consider peace as a strategic option and an honest commitment to implement it. In peace, everyone's a winner.”
It is also reported that members of the National Dialogue Commission are included in the high-ranking delegation.
