Mesfin Tasew appointed as CEO of Ethiopian Airlines

Mesfin Tasew, with about 37 years of service at Ethiopian, is announced to succeed the multiple award-winning former CEO Tewolde Gebremariam.

Ethiopian Airlines has appointed Mesfin Tassew as its new Chief Executive Officer, replacing the resigned Tewolde Gebremariam. Mesfin has been working as the head of Asky Airlines in Togo (partly owned by Ethiopian).

The new CEO has been serving at Ethiopian Airlines for about 37 years. He first joined Ethiopian in 1984 as an Associate Engineer and served in various supervisory and managerial positions in the technical areas progressing up the ladder. 

In 1997 and 1999, he was appointed as Director of Operations And Technical Systems Support and Chief Information Officer respectively. In 2006, he was assigned as Vice President of Maintenance and Engineering.

Since November 2010 Mesfin has been working as Chief Operations Officer and has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of Ethiopian Airlines since February 2019.

Mesfin Tasew holds a BSC and MSC Degree in Electrical Engineering from Addis Ababa University. He also holds an MSc. in Master of Business Administration from the Open University of UK.

Prior to his appointment Mesfin was serving as Chief Executive Officer at one of the Ethiopian Airlines strategic partners, ASKY Airlines, a firm in which Ethiopian holds a 20% share. ASKY is a private multinational passenger airline in Togo.

Following Tewolde’s resignation, the airlines also announced that Girma Wake, former CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, is appointed as a new Chairman of the Board of Management of Ethiopian Airlines Group.
