Professor Mesfin Woldemariam was a controversial figure, who tends to reprimand injustice in his country, irrespective of governments as a human rights advocate and activist. As a professor of Geography, he has left a towering contribution to the country’s academic history. He has authored a number of books on multi-faceted subjects that attest to his academic, personal and artistic acumen.
Among his popular books are “Rural Vulnerability to Famine in Ethiopia: 1958-77,” “Suffering Under God’s Environment,” and the “Horn of Africa: Conflict and Poverty.” “Engurguro''”, “Adafne: Firhatina Mekishef '' are remarkable ones.
Mesfin remained resolute in his attitude and love of Ethiopia during his life. He was a patriot, who wanted his life to end in his own country. In this regard, he went far to the extent of saying that, despite being a devout Orthodox Christian, he would rather be cremated and his ashes scattered in the Awash River, a river that runs around within the borders Ethiopia and subsides crossing out of Ethiopia.
Professor Mesfin died on September 29, 2020, and was laid to rest at the Holy Trinity Church on October 06, 2020.
